The sentences contain either a highly predictable or less predictable word. A boundary paradigm with an invisible boundary immediately before the target word was used to provide valid and invalid previews of the target words. Valid previews were identical to the target. Invalid previews were visually dissimilar nonwords. The key variables were skipping rates and first pass reading times for the target word. %I University of Leicester
