This book draws together the work of a new community of scholars with a growing interest in carceral geography. : The principle aim of this chapter is to discuss this relationship between prison and society using notions of visibility and punishment in contemporary media, with particular reference to how the ‘spectacle’ of the incarcerated subject operates within television.
